 Communion and Passover coloring card - Size: 7 x 7 This card teaches the history of Passover and why we practice communion today. Designed for use in Sunday School or Children's Church with kids ages 5 through 9 who are starting to ask questions about communion. It is a fun, creative way to teach children about Holy Communion. Each card is made up of four panels which makes a endless loop and can be decorated making it a hands on craft project. The video below shows how it folds. Wording on the panels Panel 1 : The First passover - When God was ready to deliver the captive Israelites from Egypt, He told them to sacrifice a lamb without blemish and mark their door frames with its blood so that they would be spared from death. He also told them to eat bread without yeast for seven days. God told the Israelites that Passover was to be celebrated by the generations to come to remember their deliverance from Egypt. (Exodus 12: 1-30) Panel 2: The Last Supper - Jesus and his disciples were celebrating Passover. He and his disciples ate bread and drank wine. Jesus told the disciples that the bread was a symbol of his body and the wine was a symbol of his blood that would be spilled. By His death, Jesus became like the lamb that was sacrificed at the first Passover. The difference would be that by the spilling of His blood we could be forgiven of our sins once and for all. Just as God the Father had told the captive Israelites to celebrate Passover in remembrance of their deliverance, Jesus told the disciples to take bread and wine in remembrance of Him. Jesus took some bread, gave thanks and handed pieces of each to the disciples, saying, "this is my body." He also passed a cup around for all the disciples to drink from, telling them that it was His blood that would be spilled for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:17-29, Mark 14:12-25, Luke 22:7-20) Panel 3 : Modern Communion. What we now call Communion is the same as what Jesus celebrated with His disciples at the Last Supper. The bread symbolizes Christ's body, which was broken on the cross. The juice or wine symbolizes His blood that was spilled to wash away our sins forever. Panel 4: Why do we observe Communion. The Lord told us to. "Take this bread and eat it. This is My body which is broken for you. Do this to remember Me." - 1 Corinthians 11:24. We remember what Christ did for us - He came to earth as a man, died for our sins on a cross and after three days in the tomb rose from the dead so that we could have eternal life. We examine our hearts "...a man should look into his own heart and life before eating the bread and drinking from the cup." - 1 Corinthians 11:28 We are all one Body inChrist. "When we give thanks for the fruit of the vine at the Lord's supper, are we not sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread we eat at the Lord's supper are we not sharing in the body of Christ?
